Huntington University offers a certificate in Non-Profit Administration, which prepares students to lead and manage non-profit and impact industries. Students will explore best practices for managing, leading, and governing non-profit organizations. Additionally, the curriculum will provide an overview of fundraising, donor development, grant writing, and philanthropic communication. Students will also learn financial management and accounting principles and standards for non-profit organizations. The three required 3-credit courses to earn the certificate include NP 500, NP 502, and NP 504.

Courses in Nonprofit Administration

NP 500 – Governing and Leading Nonprofit Organizations

This course focuses on the distinctive features of managing, governing and leading nonprofit organizations. This course will include strategies, theory, and best practices in leading, developing, and understanding the internal and external world of the not-for-profit. Students will grow in their understanding of strategic planning, types of boards, board ethics, and the roles, responsibilities, processes, and powers of boards of directors.

NP 502 – Fundraising, Development, and Communication for Nonprofit Organizations

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the design, implementation, and management of a philanthropic program and its relationship to sustainability. This course will introduce development planning, including donor profiles, proposals, case statements, foundation and corporate philanthropy, government and local grant writing. Additionally, this course will discuss special events, membership campaigns, annual, major gift, and capital campaigns in relationship to the organization's mission and strategic vision with a focus of organizational sustainability.

NP 504 – Financial Management and Accounting for Nonprofit Organizations

This course will introduce students to the major financial management concepts and techniques required for the effective management of nonprofit organizations. This course will offer students a detailed study of theories and practices of nonprofit management and decision-making, including budgeting, reporting requirements, nonprofit accounting, and financial standards. Students will learn compliance with nonprofit accounting and financial management principles about maintaining ethical standards.
