How to Apply
Visit Purdue Veterinary Nursing Distance Learning
- Go to the Admission page and review the requirements, process, and deadlines.
- Click the "Apply Now" button.
- From the Apply to Purdue page, scroll down the page and click on "Vet Nursing Distance Learning."
- Select FALL SEMESTER.
- Create an account and start a new application.
- Submit transcripts following Purdue's process and requirements. The quickest and easiest way to submit high school and college transcripts is electronically via email to admissions@purdue.edu.
- Complete and submit application by June 1. This includes the application fee, all transcripts and no missing information. Applications must be complete by the fall admission deadline of June 1.
- Continue to check your email and the Purdue Admissions Portal for questions and for your admission offer.
Once Admitted to Purdue...
- Accept your admission. Be Sure you scroll to the Special Population- Vet Nursing Distance Learning to accept admission under the VNDL.
- Set up your purdue.edu email and login access to myPurdue.
(You are required to use your purdue.edu email for all Purdue business.)
- Login to your myPurdue and complete your New Student Task list. Complete all tasks, including Purdue 101. You will not be assigned an advisor until your New Student Task list is complete.
- Once you complete Purdue 101, you will receive an email from your advisor on how to schedule a virtual appointment.
- You will register for your courses with your advisor during the advising appointment.
- Complete Purdue 102 orientation.
- Complete and submit Consent to Release Information Form.
- Visit the Huntington University website and click Apply:
- Choose Undergraduate and complete the application.
- For 'Planned enrollment session', choose Fall.
- For 'HU Majors', choose 'Vet Nursing - Animal Health.'
- Schedule a Campus Visit.
- Submit Transcripts from High School and any college.
- Complete and submit Consent to Release Information Form.
(If you have already completed this in the Purdue section of Part 1 above, you do not need to do so again.)
Admission Requirements
Students will need to submit completed applications for admission to both Huntington University and Purdue University.
Minimum high school subject matter prerequisites:
Science - 6 semesters (any science is okay)
English - 8 semesters
Academic math - 6 semesters
SAT or ACT scores required.
(This requirement iis waived if the applicant has 24 graded hours in college or is 23 or older.)
If applicant has earned college credit, official college transcripts must be provided to admissions@purdue.edu for evaluation of applicable coursework.
Admissions Deadline Fall: June 1
Students will need to submit completed applications for admission to both Huntington University and Purdue University.

Huntington University tuition rates apply to students. Institutional, state and federal student aid is available to qualified students. Learn more about the cost of attendance at HU.
Other Requirements
- You must have your Exposure Rabies Vaccination before beginning.
- You must have Professional Liability Insurance for mentorships.
- Students will complete mentorships at veterinary hospitals off campus. Student will need to arrange their own transportation.
- You must purchase the HU Animal bundle which includes branded scrubs, stethoscope, and nursing equipment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Students enrolling in this special dual-degree program will be enrolled as a full time student at Huntington University. This program is set up to be completed in four years; however, students will be enrolled year-round.
During the summer term, students will primarily be enrolled in mentorships working on completing specific skills necessary for veterinary nursing. Mentorships will/can be completed at area veterinary clinics or practices, and some will also be completed on the Huntington University campus utilizing the Don Strauss Animal Science Education Center and the Three Rivers Farm.
Purdue University’s veterinary nursing program has been American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited since 1976 and is one of four AVMA accredited veterinary nursing programs in the country affiliated with a College of Veterinary Medicine.
Indiana and most states require credentialing for Veterinary Technicians. Credentialing requires passing the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) and registering with the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency. Purdue’s veterinary nursing students have a 90-95% first-time pass rate on the VTNE.
All Purdue fees are paid via your Huntington University tuition and Financial Aid. In light of this, you will only need to apply for Financial Aid through Huntington University.
Acceptance to one university does not guarantee acceptance to both. Students must apply and be accepted by both Purdue and Huntington University. (See below for a walkthrough on how to apply to each university.)

All Purdue Veterinary Nursing courses are online. There are no in-person, classroom instruction of the Veterinary Nursing courses.
Students in the dual dgree program at Huntington University will have "lab time" twice a week the first fall semester. This is time to study and interact with classmates as well as receive guidance/tutoring and support from advisor.
Students will also have access to the Skills Lab with teaching models during normal building hours. (Note: Students will be responsible for their own transportation to and from mentorships.)
