THEATRE TECHNOLOGY MAJOR

Set the stage for success

Bringing a performance to life takes more than just outstanding actors. Creating the atmosphere of a story — from set design and props to lighting and sound — helps produce the physical world of a theatre production. With HU faculty and staff dedicated to helping you apply artistic, technical, and dramatic principles and techniques through a Christ-centered lens, your experiential education will bring attention to the behind-the-scenes work necessary to make a production successful.

Theatre Design and Technology and Theatre Performance

I made a reputation as a talented, diligent hard worker in my field. I had a double major in theatre design and tech and theatre performance, so I was able to think critically, explain things in actor language, and fix my set 10 minutes before the house opened. I was cross-trained and understood what it took to be part of a design team, so I never had to rely purely on my own skills and knowledge. In a world filled with divas and prima donnas, my training helped me reinforce that I was the team player you wanted to have.

Theatre Technology Curriculum

As a Theatre Technology major, you’ll gain access to our state-of-the-art facilities such as our Design Lab which serves as a hub for brainstorming and innovation, our Studio Theatre featuring sophisticated lighting and sound systems to create high-quality designs, and our proscenium theatre with high-tech sound, lighting, and video systems. You will combine classroom study, studio work, and production experience while working on various productions, children’s shows, musicals, workshops, and more.
