Performing Arts Scholarships
How to Apply
Please note that ALL of the following application components must be received by the deadline for your application to be considered.
- Apply to Huntington University and declare a major within the Performing Arts Department. If you are not pursuing a major within the Performing Arts Department, you may apply for a non-major performing arts scholarship. If you have applied but not yet been accepted to Huntington University, your scholarship application will be held on file until your university application has been completed and fully processed.
- Complete the online application form.
- Obtain at least one (1) letter of recommendation from a drama or music teacher, private lesson instructor, community director, etc. who could honestly evaluate your performing arts abilities (additional letters may be submitted if you believe they will strengthen your application or speak to a different area of skill). Example: A theatre major may choose to submit one letter from a director who has worked with them as an actor and another letter from a technical director who has worked with them as a crew member. Letters should be e-mailed/mailed directly from the recommender (see contact info below).
- Audition/interview with a representative of the Performing Arts Department. This may be done in person during a Performing Arts Visit Day, at a regional event attended by HU (e.g. Indiana Thespians College Auditions), or via video submission. Audition/interview requirements vary depending on your area of intended emphasis:
- If you are planning a music major, your audition for the music program is also your scholarship audition. Click here for details on applying for entry to the music program.
- If you are planning a theatre/film performance emphasis, perform two contrasting monologues OR one monologue and 16-32 bars of one musical theatre piece. Whichever option you choose, both pieces should total no more than 4 minutes combined. If you choose to sing, please do so to taped or live accompaniment; no a cappella singing. Pieces should contrast in genre (comedic/dramatic) and/or time period (classical/contemporary).
- If you are planning a theatre/entertainment technology emphasis, submit a portfolio (digital unless interviewing in person) containing images, videos, or other examples of your tech work. Be prepared to explain your tech experience and provide context/explanation of your portfolio in an interview with the representative.
Video Submissions
- While in-person auditions/interviews are strongly encouraged, we recognize that this may not be an option for everyone. Therefore, video submissions are accepted.
- Files should be shared with music@huntington.edu via WeTransfer or a YouTube link. Please DO NOT attempt to send video files as an e-mail attachment.
Please submit all application materials to the Department of Performing Arts by April 30, 2025. Review of applications will occur on a rolling basis beginning in January 2025, but all applications submitted prior to the deadline will be given consideration. If a scholarship is awarded, an award letter will be sent to the student, typically within 3-4 weeks of receipt of all application materials, but no later than May 15, 2025.
Letters of recommendation should be sent directly from the recommender to music@huntington.edu or the following address:
