Our TESOL/EL certificate coursework is approved by the Indiana DOE to add EL as a content area to a current teaching license. This approval includes our traditional face-to-face courses as well as our online certification and graduate degree programs. If you're not in Indiana but are interested in state licensing, our coursework may be approved for your state as well. Just contact us at its@huntington.edu, and we'll let you know!

As a faith-based institution, Huntington University seeks to meet you where you are in your spiritual journey and explore how faith intersects with your education and career. Our students come from a variety of faith backgrounds. And while we're clear about our commitment to Christ, Scholarship, and Service, we welcome everyone to the table to gain a better understanding of the values we all bring so that we can learn and teach better together.

Traditional undergraduate classes are offered on our main Huntington campus in a face-to-face format. Undergraduate students from any major are welcome to add the TESOL certificate or minor to their degree.

Undergraduate Programs

Undergraduate TESOL/EL Certificate

Consider receiving your TESOL certificate from Huntington University. You’ll earn an internationally recognized qualification to teach English anywhere in the world. (Yes, anywhere!) Our TESOL certification program can be completed in as few as 9 months. If you have time for 15 credit hours, you can join a competitive field of English educators working in schools, nonprofits, social organizations, and ministries around the world.

Huntington University’s TESOL/EL certificate requires four main courses plus a TESOL practicum. You’ll cover the foundations of TESOL, intercultural communication, listening and speaking, and reading and writing instructional methods – all while getting hands-on teaching time with 60+ hours of direct teaching during your practicum.

Undergraduate TESOL Minor

The TESOL/EL certificate includes a total of 15 credit hours. There are four three-credit courses and a three-credit practicum. For students wishing to minor in TESOL, additional coursework is added to the TESOL/EL certificate to total 22 credits.

The TESOL minor allows students to gain more practical experience with curriculum design, course planning, and individualized areas of interest within the field of TESOL.
