To the Class of 2023

Everything that happened (good and bad) during my four years as an HU student led to the moment I could finally say with joy that I am an HU graduate. A proud member of the Forester Nation. And soon, Class of 2023, you will be able to say the same.

An Animation Major’s Self-Indulgence

For as long as I can remember, I have always been an art kid. Any unimportant paper to come near me would most likely be snatched for future doodling. At some point, however, I wanted to do more with my art. I wanted to tell stories. I do occasionally work on comics, but those lack something else I wanted to incorporate — movement, and that is where my interest in animation started.

Finish Well During Finals Week

Finals week. A phrase that causes a shudder to ripple through every college student. If finals week had a theme song, it would be the sinister sound of the monster shark from the movie Jaws darting toward its prey: da DAH, da DAH, da DAH da DAH da DAH…   From a freshman finishing their first year of college to a senior who is desperate to survive until graduation and everyone in between, finals week is a daunting finish line. If we think of the spring semester as a race, we are currently in the second leg of our run, with the finish line in sight. We don’t want to run out of energy and crawl to the finish line, right?

RichLyn Library: More than Books

RichLyn Library is a vital resource for academic success at Huntington University. When I asked several of my peers what the first word that came into their mind was when they heard the word “library,” many of them said “books.” While this response is accurate, the Library has much more to offer the students at HU, and that often goes unnoticed. Check out (no pun intended) some of the Library’s services.

My Story from StoryCon

Excitement. Curiosity. Nervousness. These were all emotions I felt attending my first StoryCon at Huntington University. Dr. Todd Martin, director of StoryCon, had hyped up the event and suggested I attend. As a newer English major, I felt like I would be the least knowledgeable person in the room and the least qualified to take part in the making and telling of stories. However, I was curious about the poetry workshop, and with a free lunch involved, I couldn’t say no. I apprehensively registered for StoryCon 2022, and looking back, I am so thankful I did.

Executive Coaching and Leadership Certificate Program: A Student’s Perspective

I am learning to be curious. Curiosity begins by asking questions. It creates in our minds an opportunity to look for an answer. It opens up creativity, discovery, and contemplation. As the coach, I don’t have to have all the answers. I help the coachee explore other ideas by asking questions, and it allows the coachee to respond where there is no wrong answer because it is their answer.

“Eyeing” a Photography Career

Art majors find their inspiration as they work with different mediums: clay, charcoal, ceramics, and more. They are trained to see the world around them and interpret it through the medium of their choice. For some students, that “artist’s eye” is best behind a camera lens.
