Sparks Joins HU’s 2,000-Point Club

Senior guard becomes ninth Forester to hit milestone

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Senior Lane Sparks reached a significant milestone in his Forester career Wednesday night during #19 Huntington's 92-82 upset over #7 Bethel. The 6-4 guard came into the evening needing just seven points to reach the 2,000-point plateau.

Five minutes into the contest, Sparks curled off screen from the baseline to knock down a ten-foot jumper for his 2,000th career point. He finished with a game-best 27 points which included going 9-for-16 from the floor.

Sparks is just the ninth Forester to join HU's elite 2,000-point club. With seven regular season games remaining, he has 2,020 points through 110 games for a career average of 18.4 points per game. The Greensboro High School product is averaging 22.8 points this season to lead the league in scoring.

Sparks' milestone comes on the heels of being named to the Bevo Francis Top 100 Watch List earlier this month. The Top 100 Watch List consists of the top players from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA. The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within Small College Basketball. Considerations include season statistics, individual achievements and awards, personal character and team achievements.

This is the ninth year of the Bevo Francis Award. On February 15, the list will be reduced to the Top 50 players. One month later, the Top 25 players will be announced with the finalists and Bevo Francis Award winner declared this spring.

Huntington is 16-5 on the year which includes a 6-5 CL record to sit fourth in the regular season standings. Next up is a home contest on Saturday against #RV Saint Francis at 3:00 p.m.
