Jeoung, Smith to appear together in free concert

HUNTINGTON, Ind. Two Huntington University music professors, Dr. Ji-Young Jeoung and Elizabeth Smith, will give a free concert, playing piano and violin, at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Longaker Recital Hall of the Merillat Center for the Arts.

They will be performing Sonata No. 1 in G by Johannes Brahms and Sonata A by Cesar Franck. This concert is free and open to the public.

Jeoung is an adjunct professor in the Department of Music at HU. She teaches class piano, applied piano and is also a department accompanist. Born in Gwangju, South Korea, she has her doctorate and master's degree from Ball State University in piano and organ performance.

Jeoung was the first prize winner at American Protégé International Piano Competition. She was invited to have her performance debut in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. She also had the privilege to perform concerts in locations around the world including South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia.

Smith is also an adjunct professor in the Department of Music at HU whereshe teaches violin and aural skills as well and piano and music theory. She holds degrees from York and Cambridge Universities in music. She taught in Norwich, England, for 10 years before moving to Indiana with her husband Dr. Tim Smith, also a professor at HU, in 2007.
