HU offers College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams and DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST). Students can earn undergraduate HU course credit for scores (at or above the designated levels) on 27 different CLEP exams like English, math, biology, and sociology. These are online exams that can be taken at the HU campus or any other testing center. This internet-based testing format is beneficial because the score is available as soon as the student completes an exam.
Registering for CLEP:
- Go to the CLEP website: https://clepportal.collegeboard.org/myaccount. (If you already have a College Board account, sign in. If not, create an account).
- After registering and paying for a test, print the CLEP Exam Registration Ticket to take with you to the testing center on the day of testing, along with a picture identification card (driver's license or passport are preferred).
- If testing at the Huntington campus, the final step is to contact the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) to schedule an appointment (date and time) to take the CLEP exam. Contact the ACE center by:
- phone (260-359-4079),
- email (emarshall@huntington.edu),
- or in person (RichLyn Library-2nd floor).
- Click this link to locate other testing centers: https://clep.collegeboard.org/search/test-centers.
Registering for DSST:
- Students may register to take a DSST exam and schedule the testing appointment on the Huntington campus:
- Go to the ACE Center (RichLyn Library-2nd floor) and complete the hard copy of the registration form,
- contact ACE by phone (260-359-4079),
- or email (emarshall@huntington.edu).
- Students not testing in Huntington may search for centers that administer DSST exams at this URL: http://getcollegecredit.com/institutions/search
(Please be aware that the $85 DSST scoring fee must be paid online by credit card (to DSST) on testing day.)
Testing hours on the Huntington campus are 8 am to 5 pm most weekdays.
Testing will not be scheduled during periods of extreme ACE activity, such as the first week of a semester or during mid-term or final exam weeks.
Huntington campus administration fee: The administration fee for each CLEP or DSST exam taken on the Huntington campus is $25. It can be paid by cash, check or money order (made payable to Huntington University) or credit card. VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and debit or bank cards are accepted, but credit card payments must be made directly to the Business Office (359-4283) for security reasons.
Preparation Individuals wishing to take CLEP exams are advised to review the CLEP Official Study Guide. Although the Study Guide may be purchased for $24.99 from CLEP, it is also available to students on the Huntington campus on reserve in HU's RichLyn Library. Sample test questions and other information in the Study Guide make it a valuable resource.
CLEP study guides for individual exams can also be downloaded for $10 each from the CLEP website: https://store.collegeboard.org/sto/catalog.do?category=298&categoryName=CLEP%AE. CLEP has placed several other free, helpful resources on this website. Brief DSST Fact Sheets may be obtained at https://getcollegecredit.com/examfactsheets, and some dated DSST and CLEP study aids are also housed in the RichLyn Library.
- Students taking CLEP or DSST exams at other test centers must follow the guidelines and requirements established by those centers.
- Contact ACE at least 24 hours in advance if you must reschedule.
- Individuals with disabling conditions that require testing accommodations to be necessary must make arrangements with ACE staff prior to taking an exam.
Testing takes place in ACE on the 2nd floor of Richlyn Library.

Calculators: Non-graphing calculators may be used for some DSST exams (Fundamentals of College Algebra, Principles of Statistics, Principles of Finance, Principles of Financial Accounting, Introduction to Computing, and Business Mathematics). Calculators are formatted into selected CLEP exams.
