HUNTINGTON, Ind. Huntington University is celebrating the fact that "We Are Foresters" at the annual Homecoming & Family Weekend on Oct. 4-5. The festivities will include a parade, king and queen coronation, class reunions, Powder Puff football games and a special 20th birthday celebration for the mascot, Norm the Forester.

"Homecoming & Family Weekend 2013 will celebrate the Forester legacy, spirit and pride. Activities and events have been designed to integrate our alumni with students, families and the community," said Margi Roush, director of alumni. "New this year, students are planning entries for the Homecoming parade which will proceed down the main campus mall at 5 p.m. Friday. We are looking forward to a great weekend."

The university will also honor three alumni for their contributions to their professions or other areas of service. Dr. Chaney Bergdall, retired professor of Bible and religion at HU and a 1969 alum, will be honored with the 2013 Distinguished Alumni Citation for his service to HU and the United Brethren Church. Stephen Doyle, a 2001 alum who is now the director of health promotion operations and account management at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, has been named the 2013 Alumnus of the Year for his accomplishments in his career and in his church. Virginia "Ginny" Allison, a 2005 alum, will be presented with the 2013 Young Alumnus Award because of her service to others through World Race. World Race is a mission trip to 11 countries in 11 months to "serve the least of these."

They will be honored during a ceremony at 12:45 p.m. Oct. 5 in the upper level of the Habecker Dining Commons.
