Goshen Sophomore Snags Prestigious History Department Award
Huntington University’s Department of History and Political Science has named Juliet Wilson as the winner of the 2017 Jack P. Barlow, Sr. History Book Prize. Wilson is from Goshen, Indiana, and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International & Development Studies. She intends to graduate in May of 2020.
“Juliet is an excellent student and her research project offered a brilliant analysis of a highly relevant and engaging issue,” said Dr. Kate Brown, professor of Political Science.
The Jack P. Barlow, Sr. History Book Prize is given annually to the student with highest achievement in the History and Political Science Department’s research seminar. Dr. Brown’s seminar, Contemporary U.S. Politics, addressed current national policy debates, and Wilson’s research project, “Sexual Misconduct on College Campuses,” achieved highest marks in the seminar.
“Juliet’s research covered both state and federal jurisdictions and delved deeply into case and statute law on the subject, which is very impressive for student research at the undergraduate level,” said Dr. Brown.
The Jack P. Barlow, Sr. Book Prize honors the memory of Professor Barlow who served for over three decades as a professor of American History at Huntington University, and it carries a cash award of $250. It is funded by the Ron Frank Fund, which rewards academic achievement and student participation at professional academic conferences. The fund was established in 1973 in honor of Ron Frank, who passed away unexpectedly in the spring semester of his senior year at Huntington University.
Huntington University’s Department of History and Political Science houses four degree paths including political science, history education, international & development students and pre-law.
