Joined the Huntington University faculty in 2024.

Dr. Kelly Grant joined the Huntington University OTD faculty in the fall of 2024 as the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator and Assistant Professor. She completed her undergraduate degree in biology and her doctoral degree in occupational therapy, both from Huntington University. Her doctoral capstone focused on maximizing community engagement, specifically religious and spiritual engagement, for individuals with disabilities. She created a training manual for the disability ministry within her local church, completed ten weeks of the Beyond Suffering: A Christian View on Disability Ministry course by Joni and Friends, and completed collaborative mixed-method research on inclusion practices within Christian churches. Dr. Grant has worked in a variety of settings as an occupational therapist, including early intervention, a skilled nursing facility, school-based, and, most recently, an outpatient pediatric clinic.

Her research interests include pediatric therapy, autism spectrum disorder, cross-cultural service learning, inclusion practices, hippotherapy (using equine movement in therapy), and mental health and well-being. While completing her occupational therapy degree, Dr. Grant was involved in two international service-learning experiences. In Romania, she was part of a team providing seating and mobility for individuals with disabilities. During her time in China, she provided education to local clinicians on evidence-based research and best practices when working with children with disabilities. She hopes to be involved in future international service-learning experiences as a faculty member.

Dr. Grant has recently completed the following continuing education courses: Hippotherapy Treatment Principals: Part 1 through the American Hippotherapy Association, Beckman Oral Motor Assessment and Intervention through Beckman & Associates Inc., and Brain and Sensory Foundations: First Level through Move Play Thrive.

Dr. Grant’s goal is to best support the students in their fieldwork placements in order for them to have practical hands-on experience that will help them succeed in their future careers.

In her free time, Kelly can be found spending time with her husband and daughter, reading, and taking walks.
