Bruce Evans

Dr. Bruce D. Evans received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1985 from the University of Charleston, W.V., and a PhD in neurobiology in 1991 from Emory University.

Prior to coming to Huntington University in the fall of 1991, Evans pursued a postdoctoral fellowship at Emory University in collaboration with researchers at Brandeis University at the same time teaching part-time at Atlanta Christian College.

Evans’ primary interests are in the areas of intelligent design, cognitive neuroscience and dinosaurs. He has spent time with paleontologists at fossil sites in Colorado, Utah, Texas, and Indiana, and helps to educate local elementary students about dinosaurs. He has attended conferences at Baylor, Biola, and Yale Universities devoted to the discussion of recent developments in the area of intelligent design, and presented at the RAPID conference at Biola University in the fall of 2002. He has also led discussions on these topics in colleges and churches in Indiana and Ohio.

Evans serves as treasurer of the Indiana College Biology Teachers Association. He has published medical research articles in Peptides, Cell and Tissue Research, and Journal of Experimental Biology, and has pursued research interests in the area of cognitive illusions. His students have presented their research results at Butler University, Argonne National Laboratories, and Indiana Purdue University-Fort Wayne.

Evans was chosen by Huntington University students to give the baccalaureate address at graduation in 2005.

Evans was appointed Special Deputy Coroner of Huntington County in 2010.

He is a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Huntington, where he serves as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. He and his wife Marti have two sons.
