Art and music to warm your December days

Imagine: There’s fresh snow dusting the beautiful evergreen trees outside of the HUB. Lake Sno-Tip is frosted with ice, but the cold isn’t bothering you. The warmth of the fireplace keeps you toasty as you sip on a peppermint mocha from Forest Blend. As you finish your finals, turn in research papers, and submit internship hours, you want to experience a little holiday cheer on campus before you go home to celebrate with those closest to you. So, you go to the Huntington University blog and check out the events that the Merillat Centre for the Arts (MCA) has planned for December. This is what you will find:

1. December 3: Handel’s Messiah

7:30 p.m.
St. Mary’s Catholic Church

The HU Concert Choir and Chamber Orchestra, along with community members, have annually performed Handel’s Messiah for almost 70 years! This musical performance combines the biblical story of Jesus’ birth with an impressive score and excellent talent. Keeping with the holiday spirit, admission is free! To learn more, read HU’s article about the 60-year celebration of this performance in 2014.

2. December 5: Christmas Symphonic Band Concert

7:30 p.m.
Zurcher Auditorium

The HU Symphonic Band has been diligently practicing to showcase their musical prowess. Students, faculty and staff, and members of the community are welcome to freely attend and listen to a beautiful lineup of music that will usher in the Christmas season.
