Welcome to campus!

Welcome back, Foresters! The 2024-2025 academic year is here, and we are so excited to have everyone back, with the hustle and bustle of campus a welcomed juxtaposition of the summer break. Orientation and move-in weekend is an exciting few days of getting back in the swing of things, and with all the excitement, the weekend can fly by before you even realize it. Here are a few things you can do to make the most of your weekend and feel prepared for the start of the academic year next week.

1. Get unpacked quickly

The unpacking process can feel overwhelming, and you very well might find yourself with little motivation to do it and a mindset of “I can do that later.” While you could opt for that route, the task will be looming over you until it is completed. Getting unpacked quickly will allow you to be present and enjoy the rest of your weekend while easily removing one potential stressor, and removing stressors should be something we all welcome as the academic year begins.

2. Get to know those you will be living with and around

If you are a new student or are living in a new residence hall, getting familiar with those who you are living with and around is a very important part of getting acclimated in your new home away from home. Forming and growing those relationships will not only help you feel comfortable socially but will also develop a trust base that will be important moving forward.

3. Walk your class route

If you are not sure where each of your classrooms are, taking the time to find them ahead of classes starting is another simple way to remove a potential stressor. For new students, asking your residence assistant (RA) to help you would be a low-pressure way to accomplish this. For returning students, taking the initiative to make sure you know where you need to go will make the first day of class a little bit easier.

4. Start good habits

A new academic year marks a fresh opportunity to create good habits to set yourself up for personal success. Whether it be choosing healthy options in the Habecker Dining Commons, exercising in the spectacularly renovated Merillat Complex & Fieldhouse, or establishing a devotional routine, having good habits built into your daily life will allow you to make the most of your time as a Forester.

Orientation and move-in weekend is an exciting time with lots to take in and process. Taking these steps to make your life a little easier will help get your 2024-2025 academic year off to a good start!
