August is here! You know what that means...

It’s officially August, and the flip of the calendar brings the final few weeks of summer break with the 2024-2025 academic year right around the corner! While the end of summer often brings mixed emotions for many, there is still plenty of time to make the most of what’s left of summer. Here are a few things you can do to end your summer on a high note.

1. Spend time with your family

Summer break often lends itself to having more free time than one would have during the academic year. As such, one great way to spend some of that extra time is to spend it with family. Whether it be your immediate family or extended family, spending time with loved ones is one of the best things you can do during the summer. Taking advantage of some home-cooked meals with meaningful conversation, enjoying the summer weather with a family cookout or bonfire, going to a movie with siblings, road tripping to see your grandparents or cousins, or whatever it might be, making memories with your family is always a good choice for the final weeks of the summer.

2. Visit friends from home

Similarly, summer break is a great opportunity to see friends from back home who you might not have the chance to see during the academic year. Whether it be friends still in high school or friends attending other colleges or in the workplace, spending time catching up can be a highly refreshing summer activity that takes you back to your childhood a bit. Oftentimes these opportunities to spend time with old friends fall purely into the “fun” category, giving you a chance to simply enjoy life and not worry about impending responsibilities.

3. Enjoy your favorite activities, places, restaurants, and things from home

If you are not from the Huntington area, you will definitely want to take advantage of enjoying your favorite activities, places, restaurants, and things from back home since you will not have as easy of access to them during the academic year. This would also be a great opportunity to check off points 1 and 2 in the process if you choose, as we often like sharing our favorite activities, places, restaurants, and things with friends and family. Or conversely, maybe there is a new restaurant or store in town you have been wanting to check out, and now could be the perfect time to do that. Either way, enjoying your hometown before returning to campus is a great way to spend what’s left of the summer.

Time can slip away at the end of summer, so being intentional about how you spend your time as the final few weeks pass by is important. Feeling like you made the most of your summer is one of the best ways to get the academic year off to a good start!
