Little Ways to Actively Stay Active

Staying active is easier than you think if you put a little effort into it

We are students. Students have to spend a lot of time sitting at desks, and that much sitting is bad for our long-term health. We need to force ourselves to be more active just to make up for the time we sit. The obvious way is to start a workout routine. Create a schedule for different types of workouts, focusing on different muscle groups. The Merillat Complex (the PLEX) is right here for us to use, after all. I highly encourage setting up a routine, but also, maybe finding ways to integrate activity into our everyday lives.

Make any excuse to get your blood pumping. Stretch at the start and end of every day. Jog in place while brushing your teeth. Take a break from studying to do some pushups. Set aside some time to go on a walk around campus. If you go to the library, see if one of the taller tables is available so you can stand while you work. Do toe raises while waiting in line. The first time I did that last one was at the HUB, and for a few days afterward, my legs were sore in the best way. Waiting in line to order a sandwich has never made me more powerful.

I still recommend starting an actual workout routine, and like I said before, the PLEX is right there for students to use. If you want to learn more about the facilities available in the PLEX, you can go to huathletics.com/Facility.
