Let Me Recall Why I Loved Baker Hall

Baker Hall may now be an all-male dorm, but I had the opportunity to live there as a freshman

There was a time when the first and third floor of Baker Hall hosted female students. It was back when I was just a freshman. I was on the third floor. Our theme was a beehive. My favorite decoration was the flyer of a dating profile for the character, Barry B. Benson, from the Bee Movie. Now Baker is a solely male dorm, and I may be a female, but I still got the experience to know why Baker is a pretty great place to live.

Baker’s floors are arranged in a suite style where all the rooms are split into four clumps with one bathroom per group. What is neat about these groups, each one has a miniature lounge in addition to the main one on the floor. I know there is a study room, but I would often use those mini lounges to work or relax when I got up too early in the morning. Although, the main lounge had my favorite view. I get nostalgia thinking about when I’d get up on a Saturday while the rest of campus was still asleep, sitting by the window while wrapped in a blanket, and feeling the crisp winter air through the glass. I personally despise winter, but those moments made it special.

Getting back on track, Baker has a few extra useful perks for students. Like Roush Hall, it’s very close to the Quad, where most of the academic buildings are, which came in handy the time I accidentally slept in and was almost late for a class or the time I forgot something important for an animation project. Sure, Hardy and Wright Hall are not that much farther from the Quad, but in those moments of panic, a few less feet to sprint felt like a big difference.

These days, I live in Roush, and I love it there. However, I will always remember Baker fondly. If you’re thinking about which dorm to stay in next semester, there is more to learn about Baker Hall than my sentimental ramblings. In fact, you should still check out the other dorms because they all have something special to offer. You can find this information by going to huntington.edu/Residence-Halls.
