Perkins to bring message of
selflessness
Dr.
John M. Perkins, founder of the John M. Perkins Foundation for
Reconciliation and Development Inc., will speak at the
Conference on Christianity, Culture and
Diversity in America on Nov. 14-16, hosted by Huntington
University.
Perkins’ message resolves around the theme that American culture has
urged the individual to focus on themselves instead of others,
causing each person within the community to turn their attention
inward and neglect caring for others.

Fort Wayne pastors to speak at
conference
Fort
Wayne pastors Keith Reynolds and Joe Johns will speak at the
upcoming
Conference on Christianity, Culture and
Diversity in America, taking place at Huntington University on Nov. 14-16.
Both men are staff
members at Fellowship Church, 2536 Tillman Road. The Rev. Reynolds
serves as director of post-high school ministries and spiritual
formation and as the director of urban discipleship. The Rev. Johns
is the director of missional living. In recent years, the church has
begun actively confronting issues like cross-cultural relations,
global responsibility and Johns’ focus on missional living. This
focus has involved an increasingly multicultural congregation in
such activities as assisting Fort Wayne’s international refugee
population.

Frame to be inducted
into baseball hall of fame
Mike
Frame, coach of the Huntington University Forester
baseball team, will be inducted
into the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame. “This is the highest honor a
baseball coach in Indiana can receive,” Frame said. “I am honored
and humbled to be inducted. God truly has blessed me to be able to
invest my life coaching baseball at Huntington University. I
appreciate the opportunity Huntington has given me. This honor is
also a tribute to the great student-athletes and assistant coaches
involved in the baseball program over the years.”

Huntington recognizes Mother, Father of
Year
Huntington
University awarded the 2008 Mother and Father of the Year during
Parent Weekend on Nov. 7-8. Students submit essays about their
parents to be reviewed by the Huntington
University Parent Council which then selects the Parents of
the Year. The Mother of the Year award went to Joy McClain, mother
of Jena McClain. The Father of the Year award went to Allen Tietz,
father of Rebecca Tietz.

Four Foresters to be inducted
into hall of fame
Paul
Buzzard, Starlet (Yoder) Myers, John Ngure Ngigi and David Porter
will be inducted into the Huntington University Hall of Fame on
Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008. The ceremonies will take place at halftime
of the championship basketball game of the Huntington
University/Ness Bros. Hall of Fame Classic. Game time is set for 3
p.m. The
Hall of Fame Classic tournament will begin Friday, Nov. 14, at 6
p.m., with Concordia University (MI) playing Cardinal Stritch
University (WI). The nightcap at 8 p.m. will showcase the Huntington
University Foresters versus Kuyper College (MI). The consolation
game will be played on Saturday at 1 p.m., with the championship
game to follow. For more information on the classic, contact the

on game day at $10 for two days or $6 for one day.

EXCEL class results in family connection
Heather
Jones received an unexpected benefit from one of her Huntington
University courses – a relationship with her grandfather.
Jones, 36, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in
business management through the university’s
EXCEL Adult Degree Programs. This fall, she took a course
called “Writing Oral Family History” with Dr. Kevin Miller,
associate professor of communication.
When Miller assigned the class to interview a family member to
obtain family history information and write a paper, Jones was at a
loss.

Posegate, Repic to present 'Collected
Stories'
Seniors
Rebekah Posegate and Deanna Repic will present “Collected Stories”
by Donald Margulies as their senior
theatre project at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 22 in the Studio
Theatre of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Admission is free. “Our
project is a little different from the senior projects which have
been done the last few years,” said Posegate, a theatre performance
major from Lake Villa, Ill. “It is actually a full-length show that
features two women and takes place over six years.”

Ward receives playwright award
Sara
Ward, adjunct faculty for the
EXCEL Adult Degree Programs, has received the
Frank and Katrina Basile Award for Emerging Playwrights
from the Indiana Theatre Association.
Brodbeck
presents seminar
On Oct. 14, Tom
Brodbeck, adjunct faculty in the
Huntington University Graduate School, presented a seminar
to the central Ohio chapter of the American Society for Training and
Development titled “Taking Flight.” The seminar focused on using a
simple activity of building paper airplanes as a tool for training
in the areas of team building and conflict resolution. On Oct. 24,
Brodbeck presented a seminar on "change leadership" to a group of
engineering students at the University of Dayton.
Seilhamer goes on study tour
Dr. Ray Seilhamer, adjunct faculty in the
Huntington
University Graduate School,
went on a two-week study tour to Turkey and
Greece along with 42 other adults on Oct.
15-29. This study tour was facilitated by
International Needs Network and Dr. Mark
Fairchild, professor of
Bible and religion, and David
Henderson, pastor of the West Lafayette
Presbyterian Church. The group traced the
travels of the Apostle Paul's first missionary
journey and several places he visited on his
second and third missionary journeys. The group
visited all the sites of the seven churches in
Revelation and also studied in Corinth and
Athens. Members studied Greek and Roman culture
as well as modern Turkey. In addition, Seilhamer
had an opportunity to meet with a few leaders of
the Evangelical movement in Istanbul.
Students, faculty attend conference
A
sizable delegation of students and faculty from
Huntington University participated in the meetings of
the Conference on Faith and
History held at Bluffton University in Ohio,
Sept. 17-20. Students attending were Jordan Binkerd,
Heathyr Gill, Brandon Harnish, Christina Hernandez, Jeff
Hirschy, Elizabeth Holtrop, Tim LaBarbera, Matthew
Schownir, Chris Sutton, and Naomi Woods. They were
accompanied by Drs. Dwight Brautigam, Paul Michelson,
