HU announces
low tuition increase
The
Huntington University Board of Trustees has approved a 4.9 percent
increase for full-time traditional undergraduate tuition and fees in
2009-2010, administrators announced today. The news comes as the
university realizes the largest spring semester enrollment in its
history. The total student body is 1,114, comprised of 893
traditional undergraduate students, 125 EXCEL Adult Degree Programs
students and 96 graduate students. The total for the spring 2008
semester was 1,080, an increase of 34 students for the 2009 spring
semester.

Culler notches 400th
win
Lori
Culler, head coach of the
Huntington University women’s basketball team, notched her
400th win at Saturday’s game against Marian College in Indianapolis.
The Foresters nabbed a 57-52 victory against Knights to secure
second place in the Mid-Central College
Conference standings. Culler’s career record currently stands at
400-268 heading into this week’s postseason tournament.

Huntington named to
President's Honor Roll
For
the third consecutive year, the
President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll
has recognized Huntington University for its
support of “innovative and effective
community service and service-learning programs.” During the
2007-2008 academic year, students, faculty and staff volunteered for
more than 12,900 hours, serving families, organizations and
programs. Some of the Joe Mertz Center’s 2007-2008 initiatives
included the new student Volunteer Plunge, Fall and Spring Work
Days, blood drives, Service Emphasis Week, the Urban Plunge in
Chicago, and mission trips to Minnesota, Florida and Jamaica.

Rhythm in Shoes to perform 'Banjo Dance'
The
Dayton, Ohio-based dance team of Rhythm in Shoes will perform at
7:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 at Huntington University. Rhythm in Shoes is a
critically-acclaimed dance troupe that has toured more than 47
states, as well as Canada, Japan and Ireland. Tickets are $18 for
reserved seating, $16 for seniors and students, $5 for Huntington
University students and $13.50 for Huntington University faculty and

Nolt to discuss Amish view of
grace
Huntington University will continue its Forester Lecture Series
on Feb. 26 with Dr. Steven M. Nolt, professor of history from Goshen
College. This event is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Zurcher
Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. The focus for Nolt’s
lecture is the 2006 massacre of five schoolgirls in Lancaster, Pa.,
and how the Amish community responded to this tragedy.

Smith
presents lecture
Dr.
Timothy Smith,
assistant professor of history, was invited as a guest
lecturer to the University of East Anglia, England, on
Jan. 19. Smith presented a lecture to the undergraduate
history students titled “India: From Rebellion to the
High Noon of the Raj.”
Fairchild contributes articles
Last year, Dr. Mark Fairchild, professor
of Bible and religion, was asked to contribute
three articles for the “Encyclopedia
of the Bible and Its Reception,” known
as the “EBR.” The encyclopedia is international
in scope and aims to provide a comprehensive
understanding of “the current state of knowledge
on the origins and development of the Bible
according to its different canonic forms in
Judaism and Christianity.” The project, when
completed, will contain 30 volumes of
approximately 600 pages each. The first volume
has now been published and contained three
articles that Fairchild wrote on “Agora,”
“Amphitheater” and “Areopagus.”
