Huntington University is a Christian liberal arts college in Indiana

animation

A high-tech digital classroom with several digital media workstations will be at your fingertips to assist with the key skills necessary for your educational development. These workstations will be used for animation, film and multi-media classes. In addition to classroom experiences, you’ll have opportunities to attend an annual Digital Media Arts festival.

Your courses will provide a sound and ethical base for a career in the digital media industry. Our professors are Christian scholars who excel in each area of the communication field. They will help you gain the skills and the judgment needed for success in this rapidly growing and culture-shaping industry.

As an animation major, you will study with faculty members who have worked in the industry on such projects as “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs,” "VeggieTales" and “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.” Through their experiences, you will gain a sound and ethically grounded base for a career in the digital media industry.

The Digital Media Arts program at Huntington University places a strong emphasis on the integration of faith and learning. Theories of communication systems, including the purposes of mass communication and the effects of mass media, are intensely covered in the classroom. Students are asked to explore issues in ethics and Christian values in mass communication.

Software and hardware recommendations

Animation majors focus on storytelling, visual artistry, and animated performance. To do this we we engage a variety of techniques in both the traditional media (drawing, clay, puppets, etc) and the latest digital tools (Maya, Photoshop, After Effects, Toon Boom, Flash, etc). While we currently provide computers in all the labs for course work and homework, we strongly recommend that animation majors invest in their own laptops. Certain hardware purchases will be required in beginning classes such as a hard drive for backing up work and a graphics tablet. We also recommend certain software purchases for students on an as needed basis. To off-set expenses for students we have negotiated deals with specific venders which allow us to make certain software (and some hardware) available to students at drastically reduced prices through the Huntington University Apple Store and the E-Academy
