Jonathan D. Hicks
Assistant Professor of Theatre
Jonathan D. Hicks is a theatrical designer and teaches the design curriculum at Huntington University. He holds a MFA in Lighting Design from UMass, Amherst. He earned his BA in Theatre Arts from Westmont College. His areas of expertise include installation art, performance art, architecture and museums. His favorite credits include "Urinetown: The Musical," the world premiere of "Night on the Galactic Railroad," "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," "Spring Awakening, Anon(ymous)," and "The Clouds." His assistant lighting design credits include "The 39 Steps," "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," "Othello," and The Sonia Delaunay: Art & Fashion exhibit at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum with the Luce Group. In 2010, he was the lighting design intern with the Luce Group at the American Alliance of Museums Expo in Los Angeles. He is a current member of the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), as well as the International Museum Theatre Alliance (IMTAL).
He has had the privilege to work with the Santa Barbara based Lit Moon Theater Company as stage manager, technical director, and lighting designer. He is happy to have been a guest lecturer of the theatre arts department at Westmont College from 2005 to 2008. During which time, he won a Santa Barbara Independent Lighting Design award for his work on Aristophanes’ "The Clouds."
