Opera workshop to present 'A Game of Chance'

Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Opera Workshop will present “A Game of Chance,” a one-act opera by Seymour Barab about three women whose lives are changed by letters.

The production features juniors Abi Allwein, Matthias Austin, Alicia Bonham and Bethany Goodwin. “Letter Duets,” from operas by Mozart, Nicolai and Douglas Moore, also will feature Abi Allwein, Alicia Bonham, Bethany Goodwin and Matthew Kaestner. The opera by Mozart is about two women who write a letter to arrange a meeting; the Nicolai opera is about two women who plot revenge when they receive identical love letters from the same suitor, and the opera by Douglas Moore is based on a true story of Baby Doe and Horace Tabor.

The performance will be held at 4 p.m. May 6 in the Longaker Recital Hall of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. The event is free and open to the public.
