HUNTINGTON, Ind.— Huntington University has once again been named one of the Top 10 Best Colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Report, according to the annual collegiate rankings released today.

Huntington was ranked ninth in the region in the 2012 edition of the magazine’s guide to the nation’s Best Colleges, and 10th in the “Great Schools, Great Prices” category for best-value colleges in the Midwest.

“It is an honor to be selected as one of America’s Best Colleges in the 2012 edition of the U.S. News and World Report college rankings,” said Dr. Norris Friesen, senior vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty. “To be chosen again this year affirms our commitment to offering a high quality, Christ-centered liberal arts education. These rankings acknowledge the work of our distinguished faculty and serve as a benchmark attesting to Huntington University’s progress in our academic enterprises.”

As one of the nation’s top-ranked Christian colleges, Huntington offers more than 70 academic programs, including bachelor’s degrees in nursing, marketing, film and animation, education, social work, sports ministry and worship leadership. Huntington also offers master’s degrees in education, counseling and youth ministry.

U.S. News & World Report has consistently ranked Huntington among the Midwest’s best colleges. The 2012 edition of America’s Best Colleges marks the fifth consecutive year that Huntington has been listed among the Top 10 schools in the region.

To rank schools, U.S. News first organizes colleges and universities by category and then ranks them within each group. Rankings are based on the following criteria: peer assessment (25 percent), graduation and retention rates (25 percent), faculty resources (20 percent), student selectivity (15 percent), financial resources (10 percent), and alumni giving (5 percent). The “Great Prices” rankings were based on three factors: ratio of quality to price; percentage of all undergraduates receiving need-based scholarships or grants during the 2010-11 year; and the average discount given to students through need-based scholarships or grants.

All U.S. News rankings appear on the magazine’s website. The 2012 edition of the Best Colleges book will be on newsstands Sept. 20.
Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations. U.S. News & World Report ranks Huntington among the best colleges in the Midwest, and Forbes.com has listed the university as one of America’s Best Colleges. Additionally, Princeton Review has named the institution to its “Best in the Midwest” list. Founded in 1897 by the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, Huntington University is located on a contemporary, lakeside campus in northeast Indiana. The university is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU).
