Grand Rapids, Mich. - Seniors Haley Neiderhiser and Kristen Lahman represented the HU women’s tennis team at Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Tournament held at Aquinas College September 15-17.
As the No. 11 seed, Neiderhiser cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Grace’s Esther Smith in first round action. She went on to snag a 6-3, 6-0 win against Kristi Kuzdal of Davenport before being denied a spot in the semifinals by UNOH’s Andrea Arango who claimed a 6-7, 6-3 (1) win over Neiderhiser.
In other singles action, Lahman opened up play with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Grace’s Nicole Beguin. She went on to face IWU’s Lauren Wilson in second round action where they split the first two sets before Wilson outlasted Lahman in the tiebreaker to claim the hard fought win, 4-6, 7-5 (1).
In doubles play, Indiana Wesleyan seemed to have the Neiderhiser and Lahman’s number as the Wildcat combo of Lohser and Mella sent HU to the consolation bracket with an 8-3 win where another IWU pair was lying in wait. Jones and Reisdorf had their hands full but knocked off the Forester duo 8-7 to bump them from the tourney.
