Once again, the HU women could only come up with one doubles win, but took five of the six singles matches to defeat the visiting Spring Arbor Cougars 6-3. Freshmen Stephanie Strong and Kendra Ganz were double winners on the day, winning their doubles match 8-1, then cruising to easy wins in their singles matches.
Strong shut out Anna Cotton 6-0, 6-0 at #1 and secured the number two seed in next week’s MCC Conference Tournament. Ganz knocked off Amy Smith 6-1, 6-3. Other singles winners were #3 Jessica Deter (6-2, 6-0), #5 Dawn Lauer (6-1, 6-3), and #6 Liz Hull (7-5, 6-1).
“We have been working on doubles, but we are still not there yet,” said Coach Turner. “We are young and relatively inexperienced in doubles, but are getting better.”
The win moves the Foresters to 4-6 on the season and 3-5 in conference play.
