It came down to the final singles match of the day to determine Saturday’s winner with HU earning the 5-4 win over Spring Arbor. In doubles action #1 (Haley Neiderhiser and Raelyn Althoff) and #3 (Erica Abel and Kristen Lahman) recorded identical winning scores of 8-4. Kelsey Mark and Joni Holsem played a tough match but fell short 9-7.
In singles action Neiderhiser won easily at #1, 6-2, 6-1. Althoff took her opponent to a third pro set but couldn’t come up with the win. Mark wasn’t able to finish her match at #3 giving Spring Arbor the win and Lahman fell short at #4 losing 6-1, 6-4. Lauren Sunderman picked up the 6-2, 6-1 win at #6. With the score knotted 4-4, it came down to the final singles match of the evening where Erica Abel picked up the 7-5, 6-4 win at #5.
“We were fortunate to get the win, Spring Arbor was a tough opponent,” said Coach Ferguson. “Our number 5 and 6 singles and number 3 doubles came up big for us today.”
With this win, the Foresters move to 3-2 on the season, 2-1 in conference.
