The women’s tennis team got back on the winning track with a 7-2 victory on the road over Defiance College. The Foresters took two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches to seal the win. Double winners for HC were Ashley Counts, Jessica Deter, and Dawn Lauer. Counts cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at #1 singles and teamed with Deter for the 8-4 win at #2 doubles. Deter then gave up just one game to win in straight sets at #4 singles. Lauer won 6-3, 6-1 at #5 singles and picked up an 8-4 win at #3 doubles with partner Rachael Boersma. Other winners in the match were Stacy Plett (6-2, 6-2) at #2 singles and Kyleigh Gast (6-3, 6-4) at #3 singles. “I was a little apprehensive going in today,” said Coach Turner. “We have been struggling with our confidence lately, but we stayed pretty focused today. I was especially pleased with Ashley. She played her best tennis of the season.” The win moves the Foresters to 3-6 on the year.
