HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Crossroads League has announced its 2012 postseason awards for women’s soccer and among the list of honorees includes Huntington University senior Lisa Underwood and sophomore Courtney Baker.
A transfer from IPFW, Underwood joined the Forester squad this season as a senior and quickly established herself as one of the conference’s most dangerous forwards. She led HU with a team-best 12 goals, five of which were game-winners, while assisting six more for 30 points.
She ranks second in the conference for game-winning goals (5) and fifth in shots per game with 4.00. She owns the sixth spot in Crossroads play for points per game (1.67), goals (12) and shots on goal per game (2.50). The Foresters outshot their opponents 159-104 with the Fort Wayne native (Bishop Dwenger H.S.) accounting for just under half of the team’s shots with 72.
Baker (New Castle, Ind., New Castle H.S.) was moved from offense to defense this season and made her living on pestering the opponents’ best offensive player. She was an integral part of the Foresters’ stingy defense that gave up an average of only one goal per match and recorded seven shutouts on the season.
The Foresters wrapped up their season with 12 wins, most in program history, against six losses and one tie.
