In an important matchup that meant the difference between a second or third place spot in the MCC, it was the Cougars of Spring Arbor who secured second place in the conference standings with a 5-0 win over the Foresters soccer
After spotting the Cougars two goals in the first half, a rattled Forester team never recovered as Spring Arbor went to score three more goals in the second period to dominate the half and cruise to the win.
"This isn't a player only issue, it starts with me and filters down. Spring Arbor was coached better and they were prepared better," commented Coach Burgher. "I'm not a believer in losing 5-0 and saying we played well. It's obvious we didn't play well."
"It's easy to prepare and train hard when you are winning. The challenge is how you are going to react when you get knocked down. This team has a fighter's mentality and I have to believe we are going to come out ready to prove something on Saturday."
"Our goals have not changed. We are looking to host a game in the MCC tournament. A bad loss like tonight does not change that. If anything it gives us motivation because nobody on our side feels good tonight."
The Foresters were outshot 13-4. HU keeper Caitlin Adams finished with five saves. With this loss, HU moves to 8-7-1 (3-2-1 in MCC play). They host Saint Francis on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
