Mount Vernon, Ohio - The HU women’s soccer team suffered its first MCC loss of the season to the Cougars of Mount Vernon Nazarene University by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Playing without leading scorer Brittany Hartman, the Foresters struggled offensively and for only the third time this season, never found the back of the net. It was an evenly played match where the Cougars held the slight 13-11 edge in shots taken but fifteen minutes into the second stanza, Mount Vernon's Erin Washington netted what would prove to be the game-winner as the Cougars held on for their third MCC win of the season.

HU keeper Sam Barclay went the distance in goal and finished with five saves.

"This is a really tough loss to take," said Coach Burgher. "I felt skill-wise we matched up well with MVNU, but they wanted it more. Our lack of effort really hurt us today. We were jogging to balls that they were sprinting too, they were selling out for balls inside the six offensively and defensively and we weren't. This loss cost our team a lot, that is really hard to take."

"The girls weren't prepared or motivated to play today and that comes back to me as the coach. I have to do a better job."

With this loss, the Foresters (9-3-3, 3-1-2) drop to third in the conference. They travel to Spring Arbor on Wednesday to face the 10th-ranked Cougars for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off.
