The Huntington University women’s soccer team headed overseas to sign their ninth recruit of the 2010 incoming class. Jessica Krause from the Black Forest Academy in Kandern, Germany has committed to the Foresters.
Krause has been an integral part of the Black Forest women’s soccer team the past four years. She was a four-year starter and received her team’s MVP award each year starting her sophomore season. During her high school career she led her team to a European Championship and a runner-up finish. As a sophomore Krause was voted Second Team All-Conference. In her junior season she was again voted Second Team All-Conference and was also named First Team All-Tournament. In her final campaign Krause received numerous First Team honors which included All-Conference, All-Tournament and All-Europe.
Krause has also been very active off the soccer field. She is a mentor to a group of 7th graders and a member of the Dorm Leadership Council. She also played basketball during her final two years of high school. In addition to being named MVP and receiving First Team All-Region honors, she was the first BFA basketball player named to the All-Tournament team.
Krause who is undecided on a major said, "I chose Huntington for the small family-orientated campus. It’s a place where I feel like I will excel and mature in my relationship with Christ but also be able to help others develop," said Krause. "I am most excited for a new experience. I am eager to develop my skills as a soccer player and increase the intensity of my play, but I am also really excited to build new relationships and reintegrate into life in America as I have been living overseas my whole life."
“Jessica is going to fit in great with our family here at Huntington. She has the mindset that we are looking for in players we are bringing in. She is an overall great girl who is going to add more leadership to our team,” said Coach Burgher. “On the field she has been playing at a competitive level which is going to help her transition to the college game. She’ll be playing a defensive role for us, but adding offense at the same time. Last year she scored ten goals as a stopper so we are excited about adding such a versatile player.”
Jessica is the daughter of Jerry and Gina Krause.
