The visiting Forester women's soccer
team was a 4-2 winner over Bethel College Tuesday night to notch their third MCC win of the season.
As both teams battled to start the game, HU got on the scoreboard first when Sam Barclay followed in a loose ball at the 30:59 mark. The Foresters used this momentum to strike again less than two minutes later when Sam Cubic dribbled through several defenders and blasted one to the far post over the keeper's head to give HU a 2-0 advantage. The Pilots kept things interesting with a goal in the 40th minute of play to close within one just before intermission.
The Foresters extended their lead at the 67:44 mark thanks to the speed of Amanda Macahilig. After teammate China White played a ball over everybody, Macahilig outran the last Pilot defender and slotted it past the keeper for HU's third goal of the night. Once again the Pilots drew within a goal in the 74th minute but eight minutes later Claire Creasy knocked one into the far post to give Huntington the 4-2 final advantage.
"Last night was a great team win for us. We had four different girls score, and anytime you are getting production like that from multiple players, you are going to be hard to stop," commented Coach Burgher.
"Bethel is always a tough match for us. We kept trying to finish the game but Bethel kept fighting back. If we wouldn't have had so many girls step up last night it could of been a different result. It was just a great team effort for us and something we will look to build on for our next game."
The Foresters held the upper hand, outshooting the Pilots 19-8. Caitlin Adams went the distance in goal to finish with three saves.
Huntington is 7-6-1 (3-1-1 in conference). They host Rochester College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
