Playing in the friendly confines of home, the Forester
women's soccer team came up big over the weekend to crush Holy Cross College 7-0 and then slide past Trine University 1-0.
In Saturday's game, Claire Creasy scored HU's first goal at the 19:52 mark and then Delaney Smith found the back of the net fifteen minutes later off an assist from Brittany Hartman to put the Foresters up 2-0 at half.
The second half proved to be an even more efficient 45 minutes of soccer as the Foresters converted nine shots into five more goals. They went on a four-goal scoring rampage in the first fifteen minutes of the second half with Sam Barclay scoring HU's third goal at the 46:53 mark. Creasy logged her second goal of the game just five minutes later. Hartman then took her turn by scoring back-to-back goals within a three-minute span to give HU a commanding 6-0 lead. Jamie Duchane finished things up with a goal in the 69th minute of play as the Foresters cruised to the 7-0 victory.
The Foresters controlled the tempo of the game as evidenced by outshooting the Saints 26-2. Megan Soltow and Caitlin Adams split goalie duty, each recording a save.
In the second game of the long weekend, HU outlasted Trine to grab the 1-0 win. After a scoreless first half, the Foresters finally got on the board when Sam Barclay took advantage of a Thunder foul in the box to slide one past the keeper on a penalty kick at the 56:19 mark which proved to be the game-winner.
HU once again dominated on the offensive side of things recording 20 shots to Trine's 5.
With these wins, the Foresters are 2-1. They will take the field tomorrow against Cincinnati Christian University at 5:00 p.m.
