ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The HU women’s soccer team opened up its season with a 1-0 win Tuesday afternoon at Concordia University (Mich.). Despite being outshot 19-13, the Foresters were able to generate 12 shot on goals to the Cardinals’ eight.
Huntington’s big break came in the 51st minute when Kaitlyn Dreman came up from playing sweeper to take a free kick right outside the 18 on the right side of the box to blast one by the Cardinal keeper who managed to get her hands on it but couldn’t keep it out of the goal.
“We are happy to get our first win of the 2012 season,” said Coach Burgher. “We had a lot of players who got the opportunity to play today, and they took advantage of it.”
Keeper Sam Barclay registered the shutout for Huntington. She went the distance in goal to finish with eight saves.
HU (1-0) takes the field again next Wednesday when they host Cincinnati Christian University at 5:00 p.m.
