Before the 2009 season even begins Huntington University Women's Soccer head coach Ryan Burgher has signed Fort Wayne standout Sam Cubic.
Cubic from Carroll High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana has signed her national letter of intent to join the Forester program for the 2010-11 school year.
As a Charger Cubic has helped lead her team to sectional championships in 2006, 2007, and 2008. Cubic was also named to second team all conference her sophomore and junior year. In her senior year Cubic was chosen as one of the team captains.
Cubic has also had a very successful club career. At the age of 15, Cubic played on the U18 Fort Wayne Fever Soccer Club where she was a starter and helped her team get to the semi-finals of the Indiana State Cup Tournament.
During the 2009 season, Cubic started for the Fort Wayne Fevers U17 team. The U17's were finalists in the Puma Region 3 tournament in Tennessee. The U17 team were also finalists in the Indiana State Cup Tournament.
In the summer of 2009, for the second year in a row, Cubic was chosen for the Super Y League. Cubic was a starter on the team and helped lead the Fort Wayne Fever to a 9-1 record. The team also qualified for the Super Y National Championship in Tampa, Florida in November of 2009.
After being recruited by over 35 colleges ranging from division 1 to NAIA, Cubic chose Huntington University because of the outstanding education program it offers. Cubic is also very excited about continuing her soccer career at Huntington.
"We are thrilled to have Sam join our program! She was at the very top of our list for 2010 recruits," said Head Coach Ryan Burgher. "Sam is the type of player that is going to come into our program from day one and make an immediate impact. She is able to play any position on the field at a very high level. I am ecstatic with Sam Cubic joining our family here at HU!"
Sam will be majoring in elementary education and plans on pursuing her masters degree.
