Recker named Forester Athlete of the Week

HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athlete of the Week for the week of January 14-20, 2013. Women’s basketball freshman Amelia Recker earned the honor for her outstanding effort during the week’s competitions.

Recker, a pre-med major from Arlington, Ohio (Arlington H.S.), helped the Foresters to three Crossroads wins last week. Playing her best ball of the season, the 5-9 forward started the week with 11 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists in HU’s 60-44 win over Spring Arbor on Tuesday.

She followed that effort with 18 points, four rebounds and two steals in a 70-50 victory over Goshen. Capping off the week, Recker tossed in 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting and ripped down a game-best eight rebounds which included four offensive boards in HU’s 70-65 win over No. 25 Taylor.

The 5-9 forward averaged 15.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals for the week. She shot 51.4 percent (18-for-35) from the floor and went 9-for-10 from the charity stripe.

The Foresters are currently 13-6 overall, 5-3 in league play. They are back in action on Wednesday when they host No. 15 Bethel College at 7:00 p.m. 
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 16 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 46 NAIA All-America honors and 202 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
