In the first game of last night’s doubleheader, the Foresters jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 69-50 win over the Saints of Holy Cross College.
Jenna Donaldson caught fire in the first half scoring 17 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field. The Foresters’ patience on the offensive end was evident as 22 of their points came from the paint. HU’s solid team defense held the Saints in check through much of the first half to head into intermission up 37-22.
The second half started out much like the first with HU scoring quickly and easily on their first five out of six possessions to go up 49-28 at the 16:40 mark. But the Forester’s intensity waned allowing the Saints to hang around and cut the lead to 13 with less than four minutes to play. After an HU timeout to regroup, the Foresters responded by going on an 8-0 run ignited by a Brita Kuiper driving lay-up to squelch the Saints’ hope of a comeback.
Donaldson led HU with her first double-double of the year scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Courtney was the only other Forester to score in double-digits with 15. Kuiper and Ryleigh Carr finished with eight rebounds each. HU outrebounded the Saints 49-27 and committed only 13 turnovers while forcing Holy Cross into 19 miscues. Brittany Davis and Tanesha Vanardo each tossed in 13 points for the Saints.
