HC Falls Short At Marian

Another defensive gem kept the Foresters close throughout the game, but they eventually fell short losing 53-43 to Marian College. Facing Marian for the second time, HC got off to a better start on the offensive end and led 11-5 five minutes into the contest, but both teams' defenses ruled the rest of the half. The Foresters headed to the locker room owning a slim 19-18 lead. The Knights opened the second half with a 13-4 run to take a 31-23 lead with 13:46 on the clock. Following an HC timeout, the Foresters ran off eight straight points to knot the score at 31-31 with just under 10 minutes to play. Betsey Bean made one of two free throws to bring the Foresters back within three at 42-39 with 2:48 left. Marian's Brittanie Thompson grabbed the rebound on Bean's miss, dribbled the length of the floor, and knocked down a three from the top to put the Knights up six. On HC's next possession, Jamie Grogg got an open look on a trey at the other end, but couldn't get it to drop. Amy Berry rebounded a Kristi Koselke miss and Jessica Ramey was fouled on her way to the hoop. She hit one of two charity tosses with 1:42 on the clock to cut the Marian's lead to 45-40, but Koselke found Jen DesJean for a quick layup on a high pick and roll to seal the Foresters' fate. A 3-pointer by Bean with 32 seconds left brought the Foresters within six at 49-43, but they could get no closer. Bean led all scorers in the game with 18 and Ramey added 10. The Knights were led by Koselke's 15 points and nine rebounds. DesJean chipped in 14 points and nine boards, and Lisa Manley added 11 off the bench. The loss drops the women to 10-14 on the season and 5-8 in conference play.
