Foresters handle Grace

The Foresters (16-10, 8-8) used a late first half push to forge a double digit lead and never gave it up as they handled Grace College (9-19, 1-15) 74-54 to close out the regular season.

Grace's front court came out strong to open the game scoring the Lancers' first 11 points and giving them an 11-10 lead seven minutes into the contest. HU finally took the lead for good at the 10:34 mark on an Amy Berry layup to go up 15-13. Grace, who needed a win to earn the #8 seed in the tournament, continued to battle. The Lancers were still within a point at 22-21 with 4:48 to go in the half, when the Foresters were finally able to put a run together. HU finished the half with a 13-2 spurt to take a 35-23 lead to the locker room.

In the second half, the Lancers got within 10 at 47-37 with just under nine minutes to play, but it was as close as they would get. With 6:05 on the clock, Lauren Davenport and Kendra Stahl combined for ten points for the Foresters to turn a 51-40 lead into a 19-point advantage with three minutes left. Grace's Carey Magnuson hit four consecutive free throws to cut it back to 61-46, but HU answered with a 13-5 run to put the finishing touches on the 20-point victory.

HU's Amy Berry dropped in 23 points to top all scorers in the game. She was joined in double figures by Jenna Donaldson with 11 and Jessah Brumbaugh and Davenport each with 10. Jade Januseski led the Lancers with 15 points. The Foresters out-rebounded Grace 31-28 and committed just 12 turnovers to 22 for the Lancers.

On Tuesday, the 5th-seeded Foresters begin post-season play on the road at #4 Taylor University at 7:00 p.m.
