Huntington, Ind. - The Forester women’s basketball team extended their win streak to three with a 70-67 win over the Eagles of Judson University Friday night to head into Christmas break with a 7-4 record.
Kelsey Green poured in a game-high 20 points and pulled down a game best 12 boards to pace HU with the double double. Allison Greene pitched in 12 points, all of which came in the first twenty minutes, and Taylor Foley came off the bench to add 11 points and four rebounds.
Known for their 3-point shooting, Judson lived up to their reputation by knocking down seven treys to keep the game close but the Foresters got to the line twice as often as the Eagles to hold on for the win. HU went 21-for-26 from the charity stripe for 80.8%. The Foresters finished with 14 turnovers to the Eagles’ 22 but lost the rebounding battle 41-33.
With the score tied at 7-7, HU went on a 13-point scoring rampage ignited by Taylor Foley’s jumper at the 14:38 mark to take a 20-7 lead by the midway point of the half. The Eagles went to work behind the arc to drain three long bombs within a 90 second period to close within six at 28-22 with just under five minutes remaining but the Foresters held on to take a 37-34 lead into intermission.
Three minutes into the second half, the Eagles took a 42-41 lead and found nothing but net on two more threes to build an eight-point cushion of 53-45 by the 13:46 mark. Desperate to shift the momentum, the Foresters employed a full court press that resulted in back-to-back Eagle turnovers to quickly diminish the lead to one at 53-52.
Judson clung to the lead over the next ten minutes but the turning point finally came at the two-minute mark when Pazia Speed gave the Eagles a dose of their own medicine by sizzling the nets on a long three to put HU on top 69-67. It would prove to be the final field goal of the night as the only other score came at the free throw line where Green went 1-for-2 with just over two seconds remaining to seal the win.
The Foresters are off for two weeks before heading to the Taylor University Classic on December 30 where they will play Bryan College at 6:00 p.m.
