Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington College Athletics Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of December 27, 2004-January 2, 2005. Women’s basketball junior Betsey Bean and men’s basketball sophomore Alex Kock earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.
Betsey Bean, an exercise science major from Olivet, Mich. (Olivet High School), helped lead the Foresters to a third-place finish in the St. Xavier University Christmas Tip-Off Tournament. Bean averaged 13 points and seven rebounds during the three games and represented Huntington on the All-Tournament Team. In Huntington’s 73-69 win over St. Ambrose University, Bean scored 12 points and had four rebounds. She had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in Huntington’s 74-54 loss to Aquinas University, and she led five teammates in double figures with 15 points and seven rebounds in the Foresters’ 66-62 win over St. Mary’s College. The Foresters (6-9) return to action when they host Marian College in Mid-Central Conference action on Wednesday, January 5, at 7:00 p.m.
Alex Kock, a physical education and health major from Auburn, Ind. (DeKalb High School), scored a career-high 35 points in the Foresters’ 84-81 double overtime upset win over NAIA Division II 3rd-ranked Cedarville University. Kock’s 15 points in the first half helped give Huntington a 38-28 lead at the break, and with 26 seconds left in the second overtime, he scored the Foresters’ final six points, including going 4-4 from the line, to help seal the win. Through 17 games, Kock leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 18.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Huntington (12-5) will travel to Indianapolis to resume conference play against Marian College on Tuesday, January 4, at 7:00 p.m.
The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past seven years, Huntington has produced 50 NAIA All-American honors and 99 All-American Scholar Athlete honors.
