KANSAS CITY, Mo. - It's a fitting ending to an outstanding career as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced its 2011-12 Division II Women’s Basketball All-America teams and among the list of honorees was Huntington University senior Kelsey Green.
After receiving NAIA Honorable Mention All-America honors last year as a junior, Green (Van Buren, Ind., Eastbrook HS) once again found herself among the nation's best this season by being named NAIA Third-Team All-America. She was one of only three MCC players to be named to an All-America team.
“Kelsey had another outstanding season and it’s great to have her accomplishments recognized at the national level,” said Head Coach Lori Culler. “She’s very deserving of the honor.”
Green helped guide HU to three NAIA National Championship appearances. After coming off the bench her first two seasons in a Forester uniform, she came into her own as an upperclassmen to average a double double of 13.3 points and 10.6 rebounds as a junior and fell just shy of that feat as a senior with her 11.81 ppg and 9.68 rpg.
In addition to leading the conference in total rebounds per game and defensive rebounds per game (6.68), Green finished 12th and 13th respectively in these two categories in NAIA Division II. The two-time First-Team All-Conference pick also led the league in double doubles with 11 and averaged the second most offensive rebounds per night at 2.94.
Green has experienced just as much success off the court. The mathematics education major earned NAIA Scholar-Athletes honors each of the past two seasons. She has also twice been named to the Capital One College Division Academic All-America Third Team for her combined performance on the floor and in the classroom.
Green scored 1,070 points in her career to take over the 17th spot on the Foresters’ all-time scoring list. Throughout her four years, she averaged 9.2 points and 7.3 rebounds.
