Kendall, Hannie honored as Athletes of the Week

Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington College Athletics Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of October 11-17, 2004. Volleyball senior Jessica Kendall and men’s cross country sophomore Cody Hannie earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.

Jessica Kendall, an environmental science major from Greensburg, Ind. (South Decatur High School), had a strong individual showing in both of Huntington’s matches during the week. In the Foresters’ match against Goshen College, Kendall had a team-high 16 kills and added three blocks. Against Anderson University, her best match of the week, she led the team with 24 kills and three blocks. The Foresters are next in action on Tuesday, October 19, at Taylor University-Fort Wayne at 7:30 p.m.

Cody Hannie, an English education major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Snider High School), had an outstanding individual performance to help lead the Foresters to a win at the Manchester College Cross Country Invitational. Hannie paced the Foresters with his first-place finish in the 8K race with a time of 25 minutes, 59 seconds. His time was a personal best in his young career and marked the first time that he broke the 26-minute barrier. This was Hannie’s second top finish this season. He previously tied with teammate Joseph Waithira to win the Huntington College Baker Invitational in 27:20 on October 2. The Foresters will next compete in the Mid-Central Conference Championships on Saturday, October 23, at Grace College.

The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past seven years, Huntington has produced 49 NAIA All-American honors and 91 All-American Scholar Athlete honors.
