FOR RELEASE
2010-05-24
Even though commencement on May 15th marked the end of another school year for most students, two track and field athletes have one final test. These individuals are heading to Marion, Indiana to compete in the 2010 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships to be held May 27-29, 2010. They met qualifying standards set by the NAIA during the outdoor season.

Luke Diehl, a senior Youth Ministries major from Bluffton, Indiana (Norwell High School), is a three-time competitor in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the national level. After meeting qualifying standards earlier this season, he broke the school record on May 14 at the Dr. Keeler Invitational with his time of 9:12.73. Diehl enters this year's national competition as the 7th seed and will compete in the semifinals on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. The finals are set for 2:20 p.m. on Saturday.

Joseph Herber, a sophomore business management major from Fremont, Indiana (Fremont High School), will be making his second appearance in the 10,000 meters at outdoor nationals. Herber qualified for this event with a 31:51.27 at the Indiana Little State Championships on May 9. With a year’s experience under his belt, he will be working to improve on his 21st place finish a year ago. Herber will step to the line as the 23rd seed on Thursday at 9:20 p.m.
