HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Mid-Central Conference has announced that Huntington University senior Joseph Herber (Fremont, Ind., Fremont HS) has been named MCC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the week of February 20-26, 2012, for his outstanding efforts at the DePauw University Indoor Classic this past weekend.
After hitting the provisional mark for the 3000 meter run earlier this season, Herber surpassed the qualifying mark by more than three seconds on Saturday when he crossed the line in 8:40.06. Not only did he bring home the top finish in the 3000 meters but also established a new PR and recorded the second fastest time in HU history with his performance.
Herber also qualified for Nationals in the 5000 meter run at the Taylor University Indoor Invitational on February 4. The NAIA Indoor Championships are slated for March 1-3 at Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
This week’s honors marks Herber’s fourth MCC recognition of the year. This past cross country season he was recognized as MCC Runner of the Week on three different occasions.
