UPLAND, Ind. - Goshen native Daniel DeBoni is quickly making a name for himself in sprints this season. Over the weekend at the Taylor University Indoor Invitational, he paced the Foresters with several impressive performances.
After finishing first in his heat in the 55 meter dash, the freshman ran a 6.64 in the finals to place fourth overall and record the third fastest time in HU history. He ended his day by running a 23.11 in the 200 meter dash to earn second place not only in the race, but in the Forester record books as well.
Scott Skiles and Josh Graham also turned second place finishes in their respective races. Skiles established a new PR in the 400 meter dash with his second place time of 52.58 while Graham ran a 4:39.68 in the mile to finish four seconds faster than the third place finisher.
Other top ten finishes for Huntington included Jacob Reents in the 400 meter dash (9th, 55.94), Antonio Castillo in the 800 meter run (5th, 2:02.24), Tyler Herber in the mile run (8th, 4:48.72) and Levy Francois in the 55 meter hurdles (10th, 8.25).
For the women, Hannah Moore topped Huntington with a third place finish in the 3,000 meter run. Her time of 11:14.09 is the ninth fastest time posted in Forester history.
Lindsey Schroeder carded an eighth place finish in pole vault with a new PR of 2.83 meters, the second highest vault in the program. Ashley Williams also logged a personal best over the weekend with her toss of 35-04.00 in weight throw. She is currently sitting in fifth in the HU record books.
The 4,000 meter distance medley relay team of Krista Wood, Shana Christian, Erin Rockey and Gretchen Spahr finished second in 12:56.96, just 1.5 seconds from qualifying for the NAIA National Championships.
Top ten finishes for the Foresters include Kim Elser in the 400 meter dash (8th, 1:07.08), Amanda Henningfield in the 600 meter run (5th, 1:52.33) and Natalie Spahr in the 3,000 meter run (5th, 11:22.79).
The Foresters are back in action on Saturday to compete in the DePauw University Classic in Greencastle, Ind.
