Huntington, Ind.—For the second year in a row, the Huntington University softball team boarded a plane headed for a spring break full of competition. This year’s spring break trip destination was Tucson, Ariz.
The team competed in the Tucson Softball Invitational. The first half of the tournament, the Foresters went 4-2. On day four, the team competed in three games and ended the day at 2-1, defeating Cardinal Stritch and Mayville State.

The Foresters’ record for the tournament ended at 7-3.
“I am very encouraged by my team," said Coach Doug Gower. "We have the talent to be very good.”
Since spring break is usually the first time the team competes outside, Gower has the opportunity to evaluate each player and make decisions for the upcoming competitive season.
Not only is competition a main reason for the trip but also teambuilding. Throughout the week, while the team had time off, players spent their time relaxing and bonding by the pool. Also, some of the team members had the opportunity to watch a University of Arizona baseball game and an Arizona Diamondbacks game.
The Foresters feel ready to start the main part of their season following their spring break.
“We should have the best season here in a very long time," Gower said. "We just have to believe in ourselves.”
HU’s first home softball game is March 31 at 3 p.m. against the University of Saint Francis.
