Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington College athletic department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of May 3-9, 2004. Women’s softball freshman April Snider and men’s golf sophomore Andrew Porterfield earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.

April Snider

April Snider, a communication studies major from Wapakoneta, Ohio (Wapakoneta Senior High School), was a key player at second base in the softball team's first-round tournament win in the Mid-Central Conference tournament Thursday at Indiana Wesleyan University. The Foresters, seeded sixth in the tournament, put together a 2-0 shutout over third-seeded Taylor University with Snider tallying one hit. "April had some critical plays at second and came through for us throughout the tournament. For a freshman, she has done a great job. She's a very flexible player who can be used in about any position to get the job done," said head coach Angela Mooberry.

Andrew Porterfield

Andrew Porterfield, a computer science major from Marion, Ind. (Eastbrook High School), led the Foresters to a fourth-place team finish in the NAIA Region VIII tournament on Monday and Tuesday, May 3-4. The regional tournament marked the first time the Foresters made the first-day cut. Individually, Porterfield finished fifth for All-Region honors with a score of 228 (75-80-73=223). Porterfield came out firing on day two as he birdied his first three holes en route to a first-nine one-under par 35. The All-Region honor joins the Mid-Central Conference All-Conference honor he earned at the end of April. The Foresters ended the season with a 40-35-4 record.

The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past seven years, Huntington has produced 47 NAIA All-American honors and 78 All-American Scholar Athlete honors.
