Huntington signs two local athletes

Huntington University announced the signing of two local athletes. Huntington North Lady Vikings, Brittany Gower and Rebekah Gumbiner will both continue their softball careers in the Forester program.

Gower, daughter of HU's head coach Doug Gower, earned All-Conference honors in each of her four years as a centerfielder at HNHS. Also a strong student, Gower received Varsity Letter Scholar-Athlete awards in each of her four years as well. As a freshman, Gower was named the team's Most Valuable Player and she was given the Viking Integrity Award as a senior.

Gumbiner moved to Huntington as a sophomore and immediately made the varsity softball roster. As a junior, she tied the school record for most strikeouts in a single game with 13. She was the team's Most Valuable Player and also earned All-Conference honors. She repeated as an All-Conference player during her senior campaign and earned a Varsity Letter Scholar-Athlete award as a junior and senior.

Huntington University softball coach, Doug Gower, is glad to keep some of the local talent in Huntington. "Bekah and Brittany both accomplished a lot at Huntington North, and I'm excited that they both chose to stay in town to continue their careers. I expect them both to develop into fine college players."
